What's in a name?

I don't know why, but I feel like today is as good a day as any to explain the origins of my somewhat unorthodox blog name. No, I'm not a lesbian (though I do support all LGBT people) and last I checked I am not a bagel. One day, a few years ago by now at least, my friends and I were discussing the possibilities of one day having a band. Mind you we didn't know how to play any really rocking instruments (though Meredith knew how to play trumpet so maybe it would've been a ska band), but we were going to learn! I can't remember if it was Meredith or if it was I who wanted to play bass guitar. Whoever it was, the other was going to play rhythm guitar, and our friend Diane was going to be on drums. Perfect idea, right?

Yeah, except for the whole not playing instruments thing. But we didn't let that stop us from thinking of a name. We were all throwing out things here and there, when all of the sudden I had the most absurdly awesome idea.

"Lesbian Bagel!" I shouted out. "What?" was the reply. "You know, think about it. Wouldn't the idea of a bagel being a girl, and a lesbian (I think this came under the fact that bagels have holes) just be the best thing ever?"

It was decided that it had a subtle ring to it, and as an all girl band, somehow it seemed like we'd have a good story. It would be an eye catching name if nothing else.

Now that I think about it, I suppose it could also have been Lesbian Doughnut, but I think the group consensus was that bagels were yummier (yay cream cheese!).

So, if you see this name around, don't freak out. Know that it was an idea born out of randomness and not meant to offend at all. Maybe someday something will happen with the name, but for now, I pay homage to our short lived band idea by making it my blog name.
